    VISION:

    The vision for Lekwa-Teemane Municipality addresses the intention of the municipality to make sure that there is sufficient community participation in the activities of the municipality and to make sure that the Municipality is able to continue providing effective services within its means.

    The vision of Lekwa-Teemane reads as follows:

    To strive for the realization of developmental local government with an effective and affordable service provision which is sustainable in a safe environment through community participation.

    History: 

    Christiana is an agricultural town situated on the banks of the Vaal River. The town was established in 1870 when diamonds was discovered in the river banks of the Vaal River. Christiana was named after Christina Meyer, only daughter of the Transvaal President Andries Pretorius. Not far from Christiana the town Bloemhof is an agricultural town. Bloemhof was founded in 1864 when diamonds was discovered in the area. The town was established on the farm owned by John Barclay, who survived the HMS Birkenhead shipwreck in 1852. The place became known as Bloemhof (flower court) because of the lovely gardens that was planted by Barclay's daughter.

    Lekwa-Teemane Local Municipality was established on 6 December 2000 and is made up of the  disestablished municipalities of Christiana and Bloemhof. This municipality which is also known as “NW396 Local Municipality" is neighbouring the following local municipalities: Maquassi Hills Local Municipality, Mamusa Local Municipality, Francis Baard Local Municipality and Magareng Local Municipality. Lekwa-Teemane is approximately 3 681km2 in extent.

    Lekwa-Teemane (comprising the towns of Bloemhof and Christiana) is situated in the Bophirima District of the North West Province of South Africa. Bophirima underwent a name change to the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality recently.

    Present day Lekwa-Teemane consists of Bloemhof (and surrounding farm areas), Boitumelong, Christiana (and surrounding farm areas), Coverdale, Geluksoord, Salamat and Utlwanang. The total geographical area of the municipality is 3681.2560 square kilometres.

    There is a population of ± 52967 of which the youth is 13594.  The Bloemhof Unit is more populated with 58% of the total population from the total population. The population is distributed in the following manner:

    Notice is hereby given in terms of Clause 8 of the Municipal Policy on Land, Mining and other Movable Assets (adopted on 23rd April 2013), read with Section 21A of the Municipal Systems Act as well as Municipal Asset Transfers Regulations (R878 in GG No: 31346 of 22 August 2008) – that the provisional list for allocations of stands in Bloemhof Extension 10 for housing purposes is open for inspection at the following places:

    • Bloemhof Municipal Offices at the Site Hall;
    • Christiana Municipal Offices at the Library; and
    • Lekwa-Teemane Local Municipality Website
