Experience in Local Government: I have been engaged in Research, training and advocacy work since 2003. As an employee in the Local Government Partnership Programme I was responsible for training and advocacy programme development for Ward Committee, Councillors and Civil Society Organisations.  My work focus started as an intern in the North West Province and later on in the Limpopo Province. After being appointed as Programme Manager and based in the School of Government at the University of Western Cape my work focus was national. Through my association with Fair Share I worked with municipalities in 8 of the 9 provinces in South Africa. In my role as a training facilitator I trained Ward Committee members and Councillors in various municipalities in the North West; Limpopo; Gauteng; KwaZulu-Natal and Northern Cape on the functioning of municipalities, their systems and structures and the role of communities in influencing the decisions of government.

I further worked with Civil Society Organisations in the Western Cape; Eastern Cape; Free State; Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal Provinces. The work with Civil Society Organisations entailed the training on the functioning of municipalities, their systems and structures and the role of communities in influencing the decisions of government including municipal budget analysis and advocacy on pro-poor budgeting. The training also focused on advocacy and holding council and municipal officials accountable to communities.
